The final exams for the final year junior high school pupils across the country began on Monday 5 June and ended on Friday 9 June.

In all, 468,053 candidates – 241,148 boys and 226,905 girls – took part in the five-day examination.

This year’s exams were not marred by leakages and malpractices as witnessed in the past.

Speaking to Class News’ Mercy Obeng Akrofi, the Public Relations Officer of the GES, Rev Jonathan Bettey, said: “The 2017 exams have been very successful and devoid of leakages. There wasn’t any leakage anywhere. We haven’t received any leakage from any quarters. As far as the West Africa Examination Council and GES is concerned, it has been very well and well written. Even though we have very little hitches like people complaining about movements to the places and people deciding not to write and others, we have appreciated the good work done by all pupils who wrote this examination. It has been very successful.”

He noted that processes have been initiated to pay invigilators for their role in the exams.

“We’ve taken a decision to make sure that just after the examination their monies will go through for them. The Ministry of Finance is working closely with the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to make sure that they are paid. I believe as I’m talking to you the process is ongoing to facilitate the payment,” he said.

According to him, the BECE results should be released in August so that by September or October students would be in school.
