The visit was to officially invite that country’s health ministry to this year’s event which takes place from February 20-22, 2019 to be held in Ghana at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

Mr. Daniel Fiifi Dwamena and Samuel Osei Agyei, Executive Director and Director of Communication and Public Affairs respectively met with Dr. Francis Keteh, Deputy Minister for Preventive Services who also doubles as Chief Medical Director of Liberia and his Deputy Minister, in-charge of Administration, Mrs. Howard Copper in Monrovia on Monday.

The meeting discussed issues relating to the maiden health summit and its benefits to the former war torn country.

Briefing the Liberian health officials, the Executive Director, Mr. Fiifi Dwamena explained that, the West Africa International Health Summit (WAIHS) will be an international health gathering that will create the platform for hospital leaders, policy makers and healthcare professionals across borders to meet and share practical experiences and best practices in healthcare.

The summit he said “will provide an opportunity for the leaders and decision makers to interact and build relationships with manufacturers of the latest healthcare technologies, products, equipment and services”.

“We will be pleased to have the Ministry of Health in Liberia as a partner in this endeavor as we strongly believe your participation would go a long way to help improve on the existing healthcare delivery services and infrastructure. And Liberia will be given the opportunity to tell its story on health delivery after the war”, he added.

The Communication Director of OBS, Mr. Osei Agyei elaborate further that, the 2019 event will host about 691 manufacturers and suppliers, and over 30 sessions in various disciplines ranging from health finance, administration, diagnostics among others.

There will also be practical training sessions in the latest cutting edge technologies to be delivered by over 53 world renowned Experts in the health sector.

Mr. Osei Agyei added that participants and exhibitors at the 2019 event will also benefit from three exclusive events- the SPRINGBOARD, the AFRICA HEALTH DIRECTORY and the B2B DIALOGUE whiles at the same time having the opportunity to network with more than 13,216 stakeholders in the healthcare industry.

A number of big ticket purchase and supply deals are expected to be made at the 2019 event ranging from equipment sale, servicing and health financing deals.

In their responses both Deputy Minsters welcome the idea of putting together such a beautiful program which will be first on the African sub-region.

After questions and answers from both parties, Dr. Fracncis Keteh, was well convinced that this is an opportunity his country is looking for and to tell their story on health issues and how they would be solved.

“We are happy such a program is being organized and Liberia would be happy to be there. We are on board for this brilliant gathering, and it will even help us make some contacts with the manufacturers of hospital equipment and medicines,” he said.

Earlier on, the team met with two Members of Parliament on Committee of Health, Mr. Tibelrosa Tanpolwe and Mr. Crayton Duncun, who also gave their support for the event and promised to brief and let the Committee agree and support the Liberian Health Sector to participate in the WAIHS 2019.

According to them, they could see many opportunities coming out of the event and not limited to the health issues and purchasing of equipment.

The event, they noted, will provide the opportunity for them to give scholarships for their youth who want to study medicine as the country needs more doctors as part of their developmental plans.

“And this is the time for Liberia to grab that opportunity”, Mr. Tibelrosa noted.
