Former Ghanaian international, Augustine Arhinful believes Asamoah Gyan should definitely make the Black Stars squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite being Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 106 internationals – Gyan’s chances of making Kwesi Appiah’s squad still hangs in the balance as the June 21 – July 19 championship approaches.
Coach Kwesi Appiah will be announcing his team for the tournament on May 20, with the team scheduled to camp in the UAE as part of preparation.
A combination of injuries and loss of form have seen him miss Ghana’s last 10 matches, but Arhinful insists the addition of the former Sunderland forward will be key.
“I believe we need Asamoah Gyan for his experience,” he told Asempa FM. “You can’t rule out experience when you are going into a tournament like this
“We need strikers who can always position themselves at the right place at the right time, however, I don’t think Coach Kwasi Appiah will select more than 5 strikers for the tournament
“We need players whose effort will augment the strikers. A lot of our strikers have been affected by the moves they made during the transfer window,” he added.
