It could be recalled that the reading of the 2017 budgetary statement with its enamelled encomiums was greeted with rapturous jubilations by a wide section of the populace. This seems to be steamrolling the dazedly befuddled opposition National Democratic Congress into pursuing a course that ridicules them. No budgetary statement has evoked the kind of emotions the 2017 budget brought in our political and economic history, and this has precipitated the need by the opposition to stage these melodramatic yet comedic press conferences to showcase to their astonished and disillusioned rank and file that the party hasn’t disintegrated as being perceived. The governing New Patriotic Party made a slew of pledges to the Ghanaian people in the run-up to the 2016 general elections, and the budget read by the Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori-Attah, demonstrably denotes the Akufo-Addo-led government’s preparedness to live up to expectations. A plethora of taxes which had become bottlenecks to majority of Ghanaian businessmen have been removed by the Akufo-Addo administration to accelerate the growth of businesses in order to allow them free spaces to employ a large chunk of the unemployed youth. A party that faces extinction due to the outstanding performance of a governing party can be haled into making decisions which pedal them to a level deemed to be oafish.
