Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, Abena Osei-Asare, is emerging as a frontrunner, buoyed by favorable circumstances and endorsements in the run-up to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries scheduled for January 27, 2024.
Osei-Asare, also a Deputy Finance Minister in the Akufo-Addo government, secured the coveted number 1 spot on the parliamentary primary ballot after successfully navigating a rigorous vetting process on Thursday, January 4.
Expressing her optimism, she shared on Facebook, “It was a day filled with hope and determination. I am happy to announce that following a thorough vetting process and subsequent balloting, I have secured the top spot.”
Abena Osei-Asare continued, “No 1 on the ballot! This represents a testament to our collective aspiration for growth and prosperity in Atiwa East…I look forward to your massive support on the 27th of January 2024.”
Confidence in her victory is echoed by a member of her campaign team who affirmed, “I can confirm she has been vetted. And indeed, the battle lines have been drawn. We will embark on a clean campaign devoid of insults, and I know the delegates will speak, and this time we will record a flawless victory.”
Endorsements for Osei-Asare’s re-election are pouring in, with Fati Vondolie, former Eastern Regional Women Organizer of the NPP, offering a strong endorsement.
Speaking during an end-of-year meeting on December 23, Vondolie highlighted Osei-Asare’s impeccable track record in the constituency, stating, “This is an MP who has resourced the majority of constituents and I can attest to that. The massive infrastructure she has initiated is firming up with some completed, and these projects and initiatives are there for people to see.”
Vondolie, who also serves as the Eastern Regional Coordinator at the Ghana School Feeding Programme, emphasized that Osei-Asare’s re-election would contribute to increasing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s votes in the constituency during the general elections in December 2024.
Further cementing her standing, Osabarima Kwame Okoh, the chief of Asamang Tamfoe in the Atiwa East District, commended Osei-Asare’s unmatched record and investments in the area.
During her routine visit to the community, Osabarima stated, “I am extremely happy and humbled, and her achievement is evident for people to see. Many MPs have come and gone, but we haven’t witnessed your type since the inception of democracy in the last three decades.”
