Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, Mr. Alexander Afenyo Markin, has disclosed that never in the history of the 4th Republican Constitution have ministers ever received and answered more questions than ministers of this present regime.
He stated that available records show from 1992 to date, Nana Akufo-Addo’s ministers have received and answered more questions than those of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when they were in power.
The Deputy Majority Leader, who is also a Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central Region, noted that during NDC time, there were questions that were filed but never got admitted by the Speakers.
He said no minister in this New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration has ever run away from Parliamentary questions posed by both sides of the House.
“Look at the records, from 1992 to date, during NDC time, how many ministers came to Parliament? Sometimes I remember when we were in opposition, there were questions that we filed but never got admitted by their Speakers,” he stated.
“But today, there are more and more questions that are admitted day in day out. So for the NDC member of Parliament for North Tongu, Mr. Ablakwa to come to and say that this government is not committed to good governance, it’s neither here nor there,” he added.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin stated these when he spoke to the media in Parliament in response to the South Tongu MP’s assertion that the NPP government is not committed to good governance and is not being transparent to the good people of Ghana.

Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa had earlier posed a question to the Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, asking him how much the President’s recent official travels to France, Belgium and South Africa in May cost the taxpayer?
However, in response, the Minister told the Member that the President’s domestic and international travels are matters to do with National Security, and for that matter, the Minister responsible for the National Security is best placed to furnish the House with the details needed.
Reacting to the Minister’s response, he stated that the country has sunk low when it comes to transparency, accountability and protecting the public since President Akufo-Addo assumed the reins of government.
The Deputy Majority Leader debunked that assertion and argued it is one of the usual political propaganda by the NDC.
The Akufo-Addo government, he said, is committed to good governance and transparency, and that it will not shirk its responsibility but will be candid with the people of Ghana.
He also queried Mr. Ato Forson how often he provided needed information when he was Deputy Finance minister.
“How many times did he appear before Parliament compared to the number of times Ken Ofori Atta has appeared before us to answer questions?”
“During his time as deputy finance minister, when and how did he provide information when needed? How many times did he appear before parliament compared to the number of times Ken Ofori Atta has appeared before us to answer questions and had he ever been regular and punctual,” the majority queried?
