The staff of Ghana’s Parliament are facing financial difficulties this Christmas, as revealed in a notice signed by Daniel T. Chirawura, the Director of Finance.
The notice highlights the Legislature’s dire financial situation.
According to the notice, as of December 20, 2023, the Parliamentary Service has not received the transfer notification for December salaries.
Surprisingly, the notice suggests that salaries for December may not be disbursed before the Christmas holidays.
The memo extends appreciation to the staff for their patience and understanding during this challenging period.
“Consequently, Officers of the Service may not be paid their salaries for December before the Christmas holidays.”
“Given the circumstances, the Service has made the necessary financial arrangements to cushion Officers during the Christmas holidays. The support will be made available to Officers before the House rises on 22nd December 2023,” the notice indicated.
The announcement has sparked discontent among staff who are now questioning how they will navigate the festive season with their families, especially considering the general economic hardships in the Ghanaian economy.
