An expected showdown between Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta over the cost of the President’s recent travels failed to come off yesterday Thursday 17th June 20201 as adveristised.

The Minister has reportedly requested the Business Committee of Parliament some time to prepare his answer.

Ablakwa’s question to the Minister had generated a lot of interest following responses of the Defense Minister who appeared before the House on Wednesday 16th June 2021 to answer a related question.

The responses of Hon. Dominic Nitiwul pricked a lot of interest of Ghanaians on the subject who were waiting anxiously to hear the Finance Minister’s version.

However, the question that was advertised in the Provisional Order Paper on Wednesday was conspicuously missing in Thursday’s business lineup of the House.

Displeased with the situation the Hon. Ablakwa sought an explanation from the Speaker why the question had gone missing when it was advertised the day before that the Finance Minister will be in Parliament to respond to it.

He said, “Mr. Speaker, my issue is that in the provisional Order Paper for today my question was prominently listed.”

“But I come to the House today and looking at the Order Paper the question that was advertised for the Finance Minister on the cost of the President’s recent travels to France, Belgium and South Africa is conspicuously missing from today’s Order Paper.”

“And I’m wondering what the cause is for that strange development.”

Majority Whip, Annor Dompreh who stood in for Majority leader provided a curt response indicating that questions are admitted only by the Speaker and if the answers are ready they are accordingly advertised.

“I could make a deduction, I believe the answers are not ready which is why it has not been captured in the Order Paper.”

“The member may want to find out from the Speaker’s Office why the question was not advertised,“ he said.

Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu, however, explained that a report he received from the Business Committee is that the Minister has requested for a rescheduling of the question.

He assured the North Tongu legislator the question will definitely be advertised and the Minister will be in the House to provide the answers.
