President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has suspended the 64th Independence Anniversary parade scheduled for March 6 due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in the country.

All related activities of the anniversary have equally been suspended, a government statement said.

A memo signed by Deputy Director- Ghana Education Service, Anthony Boateng entreated all Regional Directors to bring the directive to the notice of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Education Directors and Heads of all institutions under their jurisdiction for strict compliance.

According to the GES, the directive came from the Presidency as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

President Akufo-Addo in his 23rd address on measures the government has taken to stop the spread of the disease reimposed a ban on funerals, parties and other public gatherings.

The latest restriction, the President said, has become necessary in order to curb the spread of the virus.
