First Lady receives medical supplies from Chinese gov’t.

The first Lady of The People’s Republic of China, Professor Peng Liyuan has donated some medical supplies to the her counterpart in Ghana, H.E. Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s first Lady on behalf of the Chinese Government.

The donation which was made at the request of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development(OAFLAD) to Professor Liyuan was presented by Mr. Zhu Jing, Charge D’Affairs of the Chinese Embassy to Ghana on Wednesday 21 July, 2020 and received by Mrs. Akufo-Addo.

Through OAFLAD, the Chines government has so far donated medical supplies to 53 African countries to help mothers, children and young people to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the presentation, Mr. Zhu said, at the height of China’s battle against the virus early this year, the First Lady of Ghana, Mrs. Akufo-Addo, on behalf of the Ghanaian government, gave invaluable support to the Chinese people when it donated masks to the city of Wuhan, where the pandemic broke out in China.

“This expression of profound feeling is an indelible deed in the history of China-Ghana friendship and shall always be remembered”, Mr. Zhu noted.

“As the Ghanaian people are suffering this trying time, the Chinese government returns its kindness and takes the lead in providing assistance. China is the first country to send medical supplies by chartered flight to Ghana. Chinese doctors have also shared their experience in disease prevention and control through video conferences with their Ghanaian counterparts on five occasions”, he added.

As part of their contribution to the Ghana’s COVID-19 fight, the Chinese Embassy and Chinese communities in Ghana has provided anti-epidemic materials and daily sustenance to hospitals, orphanages, Muslim communities and other groups.

The second batch of anti-epidemic materials according to Mr. Zhu, donated by the Chinese Government have arrived in Ghana and would be handed over to the Ghana Government soon.

In effort to build consensus to fight the pandemic in unity, H.E. Xi Jinping has laid out measure of China to help Africa win the battle against the virus when he addressed an Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity against COVID-19 on 17th June, 2020.

In his address, President Xi Jinping assured that China will stay committed to fighting COVID-19 together with African countries to enhance China-Africa cooperation especially on the field of public health, economic reopening and people’s livelihood, upholding multilateralism and taking China-Africa friendship forward.

The First Lady, Mrs. Akufo-Addo, receiving the items thanked Professor Peng Liyuan and the Chinese government for their kind gesture and always supporting the governments of African. She promised that the items would be supplied to those who needed them most for COVID-19 fight.
