Gov’t injects GH₵23 million into Military housing projects

He said the projects were being sponsored by SSNIT, and was started about 10 years ago but came to a halt due to circumstances he cannot tell but was sure it would be lack of funds.

Mr. Nitiwul revealed this when he inspected some housing projects in Tema New Town during his familiarization tour which is taking him to all Military installations and projects across the country.

 

“These projects were started about 10 years ago, but came to halt due to funding, and since then nobody or government has been able to take upon itself to seek for funds to complete them for our Service men and women to have decent accommodation,” he said.

He continued that, the government, under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has seen the importance of the military and accommodation difficulties they are going through and has released the amount needed to complete such housing project across the country. He said there are 18 of such affordable housing for the Army at various garrisons in the country.

He therefore tasked the Estate manager to make sure all contractors go on site to complete the projects before the end of the year, 2017.

In a related development, the minister has also instructed his Chief Director to make available an amount of $100,000 to renovate some Army Recruits Training School quarters at Shai Hills in the Greater Accra region.

According to him, the money should be paid in two instalments to renovate the blocks which are in deplorable state for the recruits to live in as they go on with their training.

The Minister also held a durbar to revealed the government’s commitment to the Ghana Armed Forces and its civilian workers.

 

He is being accompanied by his Deputy, Maj. (rtd.) Dereck Oduro, Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Obed Akwa, Commanders of the 3 Units of the Ghana Armed Forces and other high Commanding officers.
