Minister-Designate for Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, has challenged members of the Appointments Committee of Parliament to ask his wife whether he is a ‘tired man.’

According to him, contrary to claims that he is exhausted because of all the work he has put in to contain the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country, he is still very virile.

He said, “Mr. Chairman, my wife is here and she can best answer this question. Ask her whether I am tired. I am not.”

Mr. Kwaku Agyeman-Manu threw this challenge when he appeared before the Appointments Committee on Wednesday 10th February during the vetting of President Akufo-Addo’s nominees for ministerial positions.

Member for Tamale North, Suhuyini Alhassan Sayibu, referred him to a media report that suggested he complained he was exhausted from the COVID-19 fight.

The Minister-designate was reported to have made the comments at a ceremony in Dormaa that President Akufo-Addo and health officials at the forefront are already tired and that Ghanaians must take personal responsibility to protect themselves from contracting the virus.

Mr. Agyaman-Manu described as unfortunate the resurrection of the matter at the Appointments Committee, arguing he was misquoted by the report.

According to him, he spoke in the local dialect and the journalist mistranslated his comments to suggest he or the President was tired.

He said, “That was not what I meant. I told the people that they should have some sympathy on those of us who are fighting to control the Coronavirus and listen to the admonitions put into the public domain and to adhere and comply with the Covid protocols, that was all.”

“But the journalist went and put this out there and I confronted the man who did that. When they published this one, I went there and denied that this was not my intention and that what was reported was not what I said.”

“So it is unfortunate that my colleague is bringing this up now but like I said, I am not tired and you can ask my wife.

The Tamale North legislator, however, described the Minister-designate’s explanation as untrue and indicated that he is in possession of the voice clip of the exact comments.

Chairman of the Committee, the 1st Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei Owusu, then urged him to table the voice clip as evidence.
