Apart from the Chairman and the General Secretary positions which are keenly contested by heavy weights, the National Treasurer position also appears to be getting hot and ‘dirty.’
In past few days, information available to the frontpageghana.com indicate that there have been some give and take behind the scenes between the supporters of the incumbent National Treasurer, Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah and that of Mrs. Mary Posch-Oduro, one of the aspirants for the National Treasurer position.
Deep throat sources tell the frontpageghana.com that some supporters of Mrs. Mary Posch-Oduro have reportedly launched scathing attacks on the incumbent.
Posh-Oduro loyalists are said to be accusing Mr. Abankwa-Yeboah of not being truthful to the party in terms of accountability and also for poor performance as the National Treasurer for the past four years. They accuse him of being a ‘lazy arm-chair’ Treasurer who only sits in Accra with nothing impactful to show for his 4-year tenure.
They cited the incumbent’s poor performance at the NPP’s National Annual Delegates Conference in Cape Coast last year, urging delegates to reject him and vote for their candidate, Posch-Oduro as the new National Treasurer.
The attack on the incumbent national treasurer reportedly started after he released flyers of his achievements over the past 4 years since he was voted into office including “I Am for Nana App.,” “NPP donation Scratch card”, and SMS Donation platform,” among others, which ensured the victory of the party in the 2016 general election.
The Posch-Oduro camp has accused Mr. Abankwah-Yeboah of not doing proper accounting for all the proceeds from these projects, particularly the scratch cards as they allege he and his PA, one Humphrey Darke, have serious questions to answer on the whereabouts of the scratch card proceeds.
However, the allegations have angered the supporters of Abankwa-Yeboah, compelling them to hit back with scathing attacks on Posch-Oduro.
According to them, Mrs. Mary Posch-Oduro is not qualified to contest for any National position in the party.
The Abankwa-Yeboah loyalists alleged that Mary Posch-Oduro is not a Ghanaian but a German citizen, who holds German passport and is not a dual citizen of Germany and Ghana as she claims to be.
They also alleged that according to their checks, the aspiring national treasurer has not applied for the dual citizenship certificate from the Interior Ministry that will qualify her to be a dual citizen and to possess a Ghanaian passport, “so in effect she is illegal using a Ghanaian passport”, a situation that is criminal.
According to them, they are not even sure Mary Posch-Oduro has a Ghanaian voter’s ID card, which will make her eligible to contest for the NPP’s executive position as the party’s guidelines stipulates.
They also accused Mary Posch of being behind the recent impasse that ensued during the NPP-Germany elections where deity curses, over voting, illegal proxy voting and other malpractices were recorded as she served as a member of the election committee.
These they claimed, have led to the division of the party in that country.
The party’s National Treasurer is being contested by six (6) people and they are, Abraham Amoakohene (AB), Ahmed Saida Ruka (Hajia Rukaya), Dr. Charles Dwamena (Dr China), Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah (incumbent), Mary Posch-Oduro, Nuhu Mahama.
Rumours are being speculated that, one Dr. Charles Dwamena, popularly called Dr. ‘China’ whom many tipped to win has dropped out of the race thus putting the incumbent Mr. Abankwa-Yeboah in the position to win the contest.
This, according to information gathered, has led to the accusation and counter accusations between the camps of Abankwah-Yeboah and Mary Posch-Oduro.
However, it is not clear whether the rumours of Dr. China stepping down from the race is true neither is it confirmed that his supposed bowing out has brightened the chances of the incumbent.
The National Annual Delegates Conference of the NPP is scheduled to come on at the Eastern regional capital, Koforidua from 15th to 17th of June, 2018 to elect the party’s national executives to steer the affair of the party for the next four years.
