Employment and Labour Minister-designate, Ignatius Baffour Awuah has been challenged to provide proof of his assertion that the government has created three million jobs in the last four years.

Failure to substantiate this claim and his confirmation by Parliament would be blocked by the Minority.

Member of Parliament for Bodi Constituency, Samson Ahi, who threw the challenge indicated that unless the Labour Minister-designate presents evidence to back his claim that the Akufo-Addo administration has created three million jobs in the last four years, he will not be approved.

The MP noted that it will be in the interest of the Minister-designate to make that information available to the Appointments Committee.

According to him, Mr. Baffour Awuah’s approval as Minister for Employment and Labour Relation will be hinged on his ability to submit documents of his claim to members of the Committee.

“If he does not submit that document, I am not sure we will give him the approval.”

“It will be in the interest of the Minister to do the needful,” he stated in an interview with his portal.

The Employment Minister-designate sparked controversy at his vetting on Wednesday when he claimed the Government has created three million jobs in its first term in office.

“Although I had indicated before that the government had created about 1 million jobs, as of September 2020, when I last checked on the number of jobs we have created, we had so far created jobs for over 3 million jobs.”

“And these numbers cover both private and public sector works,” he told the Appointments Committee.
