The Member of Parliament for Manyhia North Constituency has made a case for the inclusion of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the ongoing fumigation exercise.
He argued that by the nature of its establishment and training of its officers, the organization is well-equipped to effectively handle the exercise.
Collins Owusu Amankwa, in an interview with Frontpageghana.com, argued in other jurisdictions, disaster management agencies like NADMO have been made the frontrunners of all fumigation exercises.
“For instance, the United States and the United Kingdom and several other countries affected by the Coronavirus, disaster management organizations are in charge of national fumigation exercises.”
“In the UK, they have contracted Bournemouth University, which is in charge of disaster management to take charge of the disinfection exercise.”
“They are in the frontline and I believe we could also do the same, especially when the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Covid-19 a pandemic.”

Mr. Amankwah argued that the entire country is at war with the Coronavirus and fighting it is a collective and shared responsibility and, therefore, getting NADMO onboard is a must to make the exercise more engaging and fruitful.
“Officers of NADMO have been trained to handle emergency situations, especially during disasters, so their role would be very critical to the exercise.”
“The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development should, as a matter of urgency and necessity, engage NADMO to take charge of the disinfection exercise,” he stated.
“As we speak, over 194 countries across the world are battling against this disease.”
“We should, therefore, pay attention to details and also adhere to certain principles, which demands that NADMO be made the frontrunner in this exercise.”
