Polling Station Executives and active party members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tro-bu constituency are raising dust over the disqualification of a Parliamentary aspirant, Mr. Lincoln Edward Addo.
The development, they said, is a ploy to impose the incumbent MP on the constituency, which they will resist.
According to them, the MP, Moses Anim, has lost touch with the rank and file in the constituency and is running within the corridors of both leadership of the majority caucus in Parliament and the Presidency in order to go unopposed.
Addressing a press conference to protest what they said is an unjust and indiscriminate disqualification of Edward Addo the group warned that plans to approve the incumbent to go unopposed will be suicidal.
The parliamentary contest, they insisted, should be allowed to go on because it is the surest way to garner support of all party followers in the bid to maintain the parliamentary seat and also sustain the respectability of the NPP in the constituency.
Edward Lincoln, they argued, followed the guidelines set by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and availed himself for vetting but was never communicated to him.
They lamented the disqualification of Mr. Addo by the Regional Vetting Committee is therefore unjust.
The group noted that the reasons that would lead to the disqualification of a candidate that include fraud and criminal acts, forgery, scandal and failure to nurture the constituency do not apply to the aspirant.
They said, “We are familiar with the fact that Mr. Edward Lincoln Addo does not fall under any of the above allegations. We are also very much aware that he appealed to the National Parliamentary Appeals Committee (NPAC) of NPP and from the grapevine, we gather that Mr. Addo has been recommended for the contest.”
“Mr. Addo has contributed immensely towards the growth and development of the NPP as well as nurtured the constituency more than any other individual in the constituency.”
According to them, Mr. Addo’s contributions to the part include donation of furniture currently being used in the office constituency, adoption of 3 constituencies in the run up to the 2016 elections and providing Christmas packages to delegates since 2011 with the enumerated contributions valued at approximately GH¢50,000 each.
The Aspirant, they noted, is attempting the Parliamentary primary in the constituency for the third time and therefore unfortunate the MP and some constituency executives would claim not to know him or his contributions to the party.
They appealed to NEC to ensure the right things are done to give a fair chance of contest to all aspirants.
“We use this medium to also call for calm within the rank and file of the party in Trobu and assure them that this is NPP with knowledgeable men and women who understand the dynamics of the game.”
“We are optimistic that the NEC would therefore review the unjust and discriminatory decision of the Greater Accra Regional Vetting Committee for us to continue to make Trobu a no go area for the incompetent opposition Party,” the group added.
