As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up for its parliamentary primaries in the Sekondi Constituency on January 27, 2024, incumbent Member of Parliament, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, remains unfazed by the challenge posed by contender Benjamin Paa Kwesi Moses.

Mercer, expressing confidence in his longstanding relationship with delegates, believes his track record will secure him a decisive win.

He asserted, “They are my people. I’ve been with them through thick and thin over the years. I am not so sure he’s even attended constituency [party] meetings since I became MP. And so the delegates will decide. I am certain I will win hands-down.”

The incumbent emphasized that the focus should be on retaining the parliamentary seat in Sekondi, stressing the importance of a candidate who can deliver tangible results rather than political rhetoric.

Egyapa Mercer acknowledged the significance of track record, especially in light of the upcoming battle with the NDC in the December elections.

“My prayer is that the acrimony is minimized. The insults shouldn’t be part of the conversation. He can tell what he feels he’s capable of doing, and I will tell them what I have done and what it is that if I am made to continue, I can do… the greater opportunities that we can create for all of us.”

As the primaries approach, Mercer’s optimism and reliance on his established rapport with delegates set the stage for an intriguing contest in the Sekondi Constituency.
