The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly Youth Parliament has been inaugurated at colourful ceremony over the weekend with high hopes from the youth to contribute to the development of the Municipality.

The Youth Parliament concept is an initiative by the National Youth Authority (NYA) to provide a single formalised youth structure at the district, regional and national levels for the youth to deliberate on matters of importance to youth development.

The Okaikwei North Member of Parliament (MP), Honourable Fuseini Issah, who graced the occasion expressed his optimism in the youth of the Municipality and called on them to take advantage of the many government policies and programs initiated.

He said the Youth Parliament concept is geared towards preparing the youth for future leadership.

In view of this, Hon. Fuseini suggested to the Okaikwei North Municipal Youth Parliament to write to Parliament for a visit to the Chamber in order to familiarize themselves with proceedings.

National Youth Authority (NYA) Regional Director for Greater Accra, Mr. Mathias Blay on his part said the youth parliament is designed to be non-partisan.

According to him, the idea of a youth parliament is to create in the youth a high sense of nationalism in order to bring out the rich ideas in them for the development of their respective metropolitan, municipal and districts.

Speaker of the Okaikwei North Municipal Youth Parliament, Joshua Nartey Ologo said he is looking forward for a cordial working relationship between the youth parliament and Municipal Assembly for desired development of the area.

“We are also expecting that the youth should be in existence under successive governments,” he added.
