President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will later tonight, break his silence on the upcoming December 17 Referendum.
The address to the country which is expected to take place at 8pm, will be live on all major TV and radio stations as well as the President’s official Facebook page (NAkufoAddo).
The President has been under intense pressure from party members and government officials alike to either withdraw the referendum or postpone it and engage in broader consultations with the opposition NDC and some CSO’s in the country who are busily campaigning against it.
The December 17 Referendum seeks to amend Article 55(3) of the 1992 Constitution to enable Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to be elected along political party lines.
The President’s address is however expected to lay to rest speculation regarding whether the referendum will take place as scheduled.
