NDC Vice Presidential candidate for the 2020 elections, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has stated that one effective way of developing a nation is to direct resources towards women development.
According to her, apart from the fact that women form the majority of the population, they also connect directly with other aspects of development.
Women, she said, tend to be the principal agents of primary education and primary healthcare, and therefore money channelled into their well-being will mean better education and health sectors.
In a statement to commemorate International Women’s Day, which falls today 8th March 2021, the former Minister of Education argued that women run the informal financial sector through the various markets spread across the country; receiving resources that ensure the country will necessarily advance.

She averred that celebrating International Women’s Day right after Independence Day allows the state to connect the profile and welfare of women with nation-building.
She charged policymakers and governments to prioritize the needs of women for truly sustained national development as it remains the most effective panacea for national development considering its positive rippling effect.
“This is a powerful way to make our nation great and strong,” she said.
She commended women from the various sectors such as mining, security and agriculture through health, education and industry to homes, offices, markets, beaches and many others for making tremendous contributions to national life.
