The Madagascar Coach, Romuald Rakotondrabe, has expressed his deep disappointment after his team suffered a 1-0 loss to Ghana in the first game of Group I in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Inaki Williams scored the only goal of the match in the 90+6th minute, securing the win for Ghana.
Williams, who plays for Athletic Bilbao, delivered a powerful header from a fantastic cross by Gideon Mensah, leaving the Bareas with no chance to secure a much-needed away point.
Despite his team’s commendable performance, Madagascar coach Rakontondrabe was unequivocal in his disappointment over their loss of concentration during the final moments of the game.
He stated that conceding a goal 25 seconds into regulation time was one of his most disappointing moments in football, emphasizing that such mistakes cannot be made in crucial games.
“The boys played exceptionally well, especially in the first 45 minutes, where we had several chances to score, but couldn’t convert them.
In the second half, our goalkeeper saved us from conceding, and we were hoping to secure a point, but that last-minute goal shattered our hopes. I can’t even find the right words to express my disappointment,” said the Bareas coach.
Ghana currently sits in second place in the group, behind Comoros, who defeated Central Africa Republic 4-2. Coach Chris Hughton would regroup his players as they prepare to play against Comoros on Tuesday, November 21.
