A leading candidate for the National Treasurer position in the NPP national executive elections, Dr. Charles Dwamena who is popularly known as Dr. China, has been given the Chieftaincy title ‘Zimpehe Naa’ by the traditional and party elders of the Upper West region.

Communicating the decision of the elders at a meeting held in Wa on the 23rd of June, 2022, the Constituency Chairman of the Nadoli Kaleo constituency, said the elders agreed to bestow this title on Dr. China due to his long meritorious service to the party and that it is time for the party to reward his hard work, dedication and selfless service to the party.

He explained that ‘Zimpehe Naa’ title means that the region recognizes his hard work and that it is time for him to sit and allow the party to reward him. He added that ‘we made up our minds way back in 2018 to choose you as our national treasurer due to your outstanding qualities and integrity and that decision has not changed because you are a man we can trust with our money.’

Responding to the massive endorsements from the constituencies gathered at the Upland Hotel in Wa, Dr. China informed the gathering that the surest way for the party to break the 8 is to empower party members through policy proposals such as the Business Incubations Fund, the Human Resources Empowerment Program, the Political Mentorship Program, the Welfare Fund and the Monthly Impress to Constituency, Regional, TESCON and External Branch Secretariats.

He went ahead to indicate how NPP as a political organization can mobilize a minimum of $60 million each year whether we are in opposition or we are in government and stressed that the mobilized resources should be committed to running these programs that will empower the party members.

Dr. China is contesting the position of National Treasurer of NPP and has been touring the various regions to meet and interact with party delegates. He served as the Director of Finance and Administration at the NPP headquarters in 2016 and 2017 and as Ghana’s Deputy Ambassador to China from 2017 to 2020.
