Mr. Osei Assibey-Antwi, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said there had been a significant increase in the beneficiary children of the Programme from the earlier figure of 46, 000 to the current figure.
Addressing a town hall meeting at Bantama in Kumasi, he indicated that the government remained committed to creating an enabling environment to improve the general school enrolment.
The programme, organized by the Information Services Department (ISD), was to allow the Assembly explain its socio-economic policies and programmes, while sharing its overall development agenda with the public.
It is an initiative by the Ministry of Information to whip up public interest for the successful implementation of the government’s programmes designed to bolster the living condition of the masses.
Mr. Assibey-Antwi indicated that the Assembly had since last year distributed 2, 300 dual desks, as well as 1, 200 tables and chairs to some selected schools in the metropolis.
On the lightning system, he said a total of 100 streetlights had also been distributed within the same period to improve security and the safety of the people.
On health, the MCE stated that the Maternal and Child Health Hospital had been expanded with a 20 bed-capacity special ward provided to augment healthcare delivery.
Mr. Assibey-Antwi observed that in spite of the heavy rainfall experienced this year, the metropolis recorded fewer cases of flooding.
This, he said, was as a result of the good work done by the KMA in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) by constantly desilting drains.
