Yusif Alhassan Chibsah, agent of Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris has denied his client boycotted an ‘official’ meeting with the Black Stars technical team.
Earlier reports indicated the Nantes forward refused to meet the technical and management team upon hearing his omission from the final 23 to Egypt.
Waris was one of the surprise exclusions from Coach Kwesi Appiah’s final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations have impressed in the French Ligue 1 last season.
His barring came as a shock to many football fans following the player’s consistent form at Club level.
Contrary to reports indicating the “angry” player ignored a meeting with the team, his representative who is in Dubai with the team has quashed the said report which is aimed at painting a “pointless” tension in the Black Stars camp.
“Majeed Waris was disappointed for his exclusion when he saw the news circulating on social media before he was informed officially”, He told Kumasi-based Ashh FM.
“Majeed Warris locked himself up in his room because he was in a bad mood after seeing it on social media,so that was why he refused to open the door when someone knocked”
“The meeting that Majeed Warris boycotted was not official because the players who couldn’t make up the final squad were called individually”
“I heard Dede Ayew informed some of the players of their exclusion but I don’t know how authentic that news was…Abdul Fatau was informed officially by the technical team”
“Ideally, it is the technical team that inform players of their exclusion from the team but it will depend on the chan of communication in the team so it would not be bad if Dede was told to inform the players”
“This is the National team and it is not the first time dropping players so we must all be united and support the team ahead of the Afcon tournament”.
