Today, Ghana joins other African countries to celebrate the African Union Day, the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) (now known as the African Union) on May 25, 1963. It is celebrated in various countries on the African continent, as well as around the world.

This year’s celebration is the 54th edition.

In a post to commemorate the day, Dr. Omane Boamah in a post on Facebook to commemorate the day, called on Africans to see the day as a period of reflection on where she came from, the gains she had made and where she is headed.

He added that in doing the assessment, it is imperative that it is done with the true history of Africa but not the distorted history some Neocolonialist wants to put out there.

He posted “

AU Day calls for honest assessment of where we are coming from, where we are now and how these major milestones can shape our collective future. This assessment must be based on a true but not the distorted history of Africa as some, including Neocolonial Agents, seek to project. Happy AU Day!!! A luta Continua, victoria e certa…..”.

In Ghana, there are several events expected to be rolled out today to mark the day.
