The Ashanti Regional Police Command is holding one Awuku, a security operative for the Bank of Ghana (BOG) as prime suspect in the shooting of his girlfriend in a hotel in Kumasi.

The incident happened On Thursday, January 2, 2020, when the Regional Police Command received a distress call that a woman has been shot dead in the Cedar Crescent Hotel in Kumasi.

The woman whose name is currently unknown was killed at point-blank range, while Awuku is said to have sustained some injuries.

Initially, an impression was created that the attack came from outside when Awuku’s wife reportedly called the police.

Apparently, Awuku had called his wife to give her a different version of the story.

Checks by Whatsup News indicates that Awuku may have checked into the hotel with a fully loaded gun on the blindside of hotel stuff.

Speaking to the Hotel Manager, Naa Kella Buadu, she expressed shock that such an incident could have happened at the hotel which places a premium on the security of its clients.

She told Whatsup News that the hotel would have had no way of knowing Awuku sneaked in a gun when checking into the hotel, because it would have been a violation of the client’s privacy if the hotel decided to search the luggage of every customer.

According to Commander Abrokwa of the Kumasi district division the Ghana Police service in a telephone interview, the wife of Awuku reported to the police that her husband has been attacked at the hotel.

The Police promptly followed up to the scene to discover the deceased lying in a pool of blood and the suspect injured in the arm.

The scene raised suspicion of the police who immediately regarded Awuku as a prime suspect. Commander Abrokwa explained that the suspect has been taken to the crime scene, evidence was taken and the gun used has been retrieved by the police from the suspect.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching morgue while the boyfriend, who sustained injuries has also been admitted before he is charged.
