Recently, some elements in some countries, have colluded with forces in Taiwan, to claim that the UNGA Resolution 2758 did not conclusively resolve the issue of Taiwan’s representation. They argue that Taiwan has determined to join the UN, and declare their support for “Taiwan as a country to participation in the UN”. In that case, these countries intend to create “two Chinas” or “one China, one Taiwan” as a form of political strategy to use the Taiwan question to disturb the peacefully development of China.
These actions in violation of Resolution 2758 and international law seriously breach the political commitments made by these countries. They want to damage China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and treat the basic principles of international law with contempt.
These external forces are using Taiwan as a tool to undermine China’s development and progress, at the cost of the interests, wellbeing and future of the people of Taiwan region. They have encouraged and instigated provocative actions by the Taiwan separatist forces; these have intensified cross-Straits tension and confrontation, and undermined peace and stability in the region. This runs counter to the underlying global trends of peace, development and win-win cooperation, and goes against the wishes of the international community and the aspiration of individuals.
The Chinese Government’s one-China principle represents the universal consensus of the international community; it is consistent with the basic norms of international relations. To date, 181 countries have established diplomatic relations with the PRC on the basis of the one-China principle.
The author recommends that a proposal of peaceful negotiation are to be conducted by the PRC Central Government and the Taiwan authority. Chinese will decide their own affairs. No any foreign power should be involved in these negotiations. Macau and Hong-Kong may be a place for these discussions. In this case, we can strive to achieve peaceful reunification for the benefit of the Chinese nation as well as all peoples and the international community as a whole, contributing more to building a global community of shared future, promoting world peace and development.
