The supplies, comprising 2,000 bags of rice, 3,000 liters of cooking oil and 6,000 face masks, are to be distributed to the Muslim community as they prepare for Ramadan, the holy fasting month on the Islamic calendar.
Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Shi Ting Wang, made the presentation on behalf of the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese Community at the residence of the Chief Imam in New Fadama on Friday.

He explained that the Embassy, together with the Chinese Chambers of Commerce in Ghana prepared the supplies as special Ramadan gifts to the Muslim community.
Battling COVID-19
In his address during the presentation, the Ambassador noted that China united under the leadership of President Xi Jinping to stage war and achieve victory against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
China, he said, will not forget the support from Africa during the most critical times following the outbreak of the disease in Wuhan.
He said, “China is the first country to send medical supplies by charted flight to Africa and dispatched many medical teams to Africa to share diagnosis and treatment experiences of COVID-19.”
“Although China’s internal epidemic situation is still complex and the anti-epidemic supplies are not abundant throughout the world, China is a true friend that has really helped Africa,” he added.

Ambassador Wang noted that Ghana is in a critical period of the anti-epidemic and stressed the people of China are fully aware of the difficulty of fighting the epidemic.
“They know the suffering and feeling of the Ghanaian people, especially the many Chinese who have settled in Ghana for a long time.”
“The Chinese Chambers of Commerce in Ghana have therefore actively taken action and doing their part to fight against the epidemic in Ghana,” he stated.
Africans in Guangdong
Speaking on the alleged maltreatment of Africans in China, Ambassador Wang noted that Africans have found in Guangdong a second home because of its friendliness.

According to him, in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic the city, just like many cities across the world, took a number of steps to improve its response and implemented health measures in a non-differential way.
He noted that in such a period, which is special and unprecedented in history with people dying in thousands, the slightest carelessness could worsen the situation.
He admitted that some unpleasant incidences may have happened during the process in Guangdong but stressed the entirety of the actions being taken is to protect every inhabitant of the city.
Ambassador Wang appealed to all foreigners including Africans in Guangdong to understand the policy and follow the rules of the province to ensure the safety of all.
