Three Ghanaians have reportedly died of the Corovirus (Covid-19) in Europe, two in Italy and one in Demark.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey disclosed this to the media in Parliament.

The Ministry, she said, is therefore issuing new advice to Ghanaians abroad to abide by new directives of the countries they reside to ensure Ghanaian fatalities keep to the barest minimum.

According to her, Ghana’s consular services across the world have been suspended for a while so Ghanaian Embassies are not issuing visas or providing services to Ghanaian citizens abroad.

“These Ghanaians recognize the dangers of the time and acknowledge the need for some measures to be taken in order to minimize the spread.”

“We have to ensure we protect our officials and Ghanaians,” she stated.

Ms. Ayorkor Botchwey, however, gave an assurance that in the case of emergencies the Embassies will move in with the necessary precautions to assist and protect Ghanaians.

She indicated the new directive from the Ghanaian authorities is that no foreigner would be allowed into the country.

All airlines, she said, have been made aware of this situation but stressed Ghanaian nationals returning home from abroad would be allowed in subject mandatory quarantine.

“The Ministry has advised its consular officers including those on duty tour to stay where they are and await further directives.

According to her, this is to ensure the transmission of the Coronavirus is kept to the barest minimum in view of the fact that all the seven cases confirmed in Ghana were imported.

She disclosed that the passport office has also suspended its operation until further notice because of the hordes of clients who besiege the place.

This, she said, is in line with the President’s directive to reduce large gatherings as much as possible to minimize the risk of transmitting the infection.
