Former Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen has said its high time government admit the country is in severe economic distress and believes that no amount of twists and turns can change that fact.

He noted that party and government communicators should be guided by these principles and be truthful to the public.

According to Obiri Boahen, we cannot continue with our usual partisan politics while Ghanaians are clearly suffering.

He said that the depreciation of the cedi is a major threat to businesses, with several of them collapsing.

He stated on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm’s Frontline that basic commodities such as milk, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and other household commodities have become prohibitively expensive for Ghanaians.

He indicated that no rational and objective person would argue that the country is not in the grip of an economic crisis.

He emphasized the importance of political party communicators being truthful and not taking Ghanaians for granted.

He also admitted that not all communicators of a party are candid or truthful, but communicators must be responsible in their communication in general.

He asserted that any rational person would agree that the cedi is losing value against the dollar. Recognize that thongs are difficult. Recognize that your company is struggling. Recognize that we are not living in normal times. That is exactly what Ghanaians want to hear.”
