Dr. Joseph Obeng, the President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), has urged the government to provide detailed information and timelines for the implementation of the import restrictions bill, which is currently under consideration by the Parliament.

According to Dr. Obeng, it is important for Ghanaians to know the aims and objectives of the Legislative Instrument well in advance.

He stressed the need for the government to provide clarity on how the policy will enhance local productivity, and attain self-sufficiency, and the timelines for achieving these objectives.

Dr. Obeng emphasized that knowing the timelines will help traders to prepare themselves for the restrictions that may arise.

GUTA is part of the Joint Business Consultative Forum, which comprises six business associations.

Recently, the forum submitted a petition to Parliament urging it to reject the import restrictions bill.

The other five associations under the forum are the Food and Beverages Association of Ghana (FABAG), Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF), Chamber of Automobile Dealership Ghana (CADEG), and Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI).
