The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is taking steps to provide training for nurses at its Maternity Block following concerns by staff.

Nurses working at the Block have complained of limited knowledge in managing suspected cases of COVIV-19 following a Joy News investigation that revealed suspected COVID patients are sharing a floor with other patients including pregnant women.

The disclosure has sparked public concerns in view of the limited knowledge about the real spread of the coronavirus and how the development could lead to a major outbreak in the country’s premier health facility.

PRO of the Korle Bu Hospital, Mustapha Salifu, has however indicated the facility is putting in measures to train and retrain the staff.

According to him, as part of the hospital programme, staff are taking through various training programmes including infection prevention control.

He disclosed that following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the hospital organized training and retraining for staff, which is still ongoing.

Mr. Salifu expressed surprise that some staff are claiming they have not gone through training and do not know how to protect themselves and their patients from danger.

He stated that as an added precaution, the Hospital will organize training and retraining of the staff on the subjects of concern to ensure the safety of staff, patients and visitors.
