A lecturer of the Koforidua Technical University (KTU), Dr. Benjamin Kwofie, has dissociated himself from a letter purportedly signed by concerned lecturers from Ghanaian universities to the Electoral Commission (EC).
According to Dr. Kwofie, he knows nothing about the group, their intentions, or the purpose of existence.
In a terse letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of KTU, the lecturer indicated he is not privy to the content of the said letter nor was he a party to their agenda.
He said, “I believe my name has been brought into national disrepute, an unfortunate situation for the image of this institution.”
“And to worsen matters, the name of the institution was appended to my name,” he lamented.
Dr. Kwofie appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to investigate the matter and issue a disclaimer.
He said, “Write to the Electoral Commission of this country disassociating the institution and its innocent members from such an action.”
The wellbeing of the affected lecturers, he said, is important to the institution and therefore the right thing should be done.
Readers would recall that two days ago there were media reports that some 100 concerned university lecturers have warned the Electoral Commission to tread carefully as it embarks on an exercise to compile a new voters’ register.

DISASSOCIATION FROM A LETTER ADDRESSED TO THE E.C OF GHANA PURPORTING TO ORIGINATE FROM A SO-CALLED CONCERNED LECTURERS FROM GHANAIAN UNIVERSITIES
Yesterday, the 9h of June 2020, a letter circulating in the social media purported to originate from a group of concerned lecturers from Ghanaian Universities had names of some lecturers from this institution appended. My name, Dr. Ben Kwofie, was included.
I wish to state clearly that I know nothing about the group, their intentions or purpose of existence. I am not privy to the content of the said letter nor am I party to their agenda.
I believe my name has been brought into national disrepute, unfortunate situation for the image of this institution, and to worsen matters, the name of the institution was appended to my name.
I wish to call on your noble office to investigate this matter, issue a disclaimer in a press release, and write to the Electoral Commission of this country disassociating the institution and its innocent members from such action.
I believe that our wellbeing is important to the institution and the right thing will be done.
Thank you for your attention and counting on your usual co-operation.
Yours faithfully,
(Benjamini Kwofie, Ph.D.)
