The Honourable Member for Kwabre East in the Ashanti region, Ms. Francisca Oteng Mensah has cautioned her constituents and Ghanaians to take certain precautions and safety measures for their own security interest.

Ms. Oteng Mensah said its time for citizens to be of watch out and “report any person or persons they suspect are doing any act or likely to commit an offence to the appropriate authorities so we continue to protect the life’s and the good name of the Constituency and its reputation which our forefathers have fought to protect.”

She continued that the people of Kwabre East condemn the actions of these alleged kidnappers and would not encourage any illegal activity which will bring the name of the constituency into disrepute to the effect of the livelihood of the indigenous and Ghanaian citizenry as a whole.

Unhappy with the kidnappings in the country in recently times, Ms. Oteng Mensah said, “I must say it is a great discomfort and shameful that some of these alleged kidnappers were found in one of the most peaceful and serene areas in the Ashanti Region that anybody could live in. It is therefore important that such perception of insecurity in Kwabre East is cleared from the minds of Ghanaians and other foreign investors who would like to do business within the Constituency.”

Ms. Francisca Oteng Mensah said this in a statement she read on the floor of Parliament on Friday 14th June, 2019 to register her displeasure on the kidnap of two Canadians who were rescued from their kidnappers in Kenyase and Antoa all in her Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

“The citizens of Kwabre East are very loving and peaceful people and would not condone any illegality which would bring the name of the constituency into disrepute. The constituency has contributed a lot to the economy of the country in the tourism sector and that is why most of the finest Kente, Adinkra and Wooden Artefacts are produce and exported to neighbouring towns and countries across the world,” she noted.

“Mr. Speaker, Adanwomase and Ntonso produce most of the Kente and Adinkra cloth of the Asantehene (Otumfuor Osei Tutu II) and other sub chiefs in the Asante Kingdom. Some of the Stools of some Chiefs and Queen Mothers are produced in Ahwiaa all in the Kwabre East Constituency,” she added.

The member also used the opportunity to commend the Security agencies for their effort in rescuing the two Canadian girls and of arrest the kidnappers.

Two Canadian girls, Bailey Chitty and Lauren Tilley, who were in the country for a youth development programme, were kidnapped in Kumasi after an Uber car which they took dropped them at their hostel. The timely efforts of the security agencies led to their rescue in Kenyase. Subsequently, some of the alleged kidnappers were arrested by the police in Kenyase and Antoa in the Ashanti regions. The girls have since left to their country.
