LGBTQ+: Attempts to pervert family values will be fiercely resisted – GPCC warns

The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has reiterated its abhorrence to practices and theories that seek to denigrate family values.

It warned that any attempt to pervert these values would be fiercely resisted through all spiritual, physical and legal means.

According to the Council, it has consistently made these clear in its denouncements of the opening of the LGBQ+ Advocacy centre in Accra.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the GPCC National Executive Council (NEC) said it is imperative it states its official position on the ‘The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021’ following the raging debate on the issue.

It expressed its full support to members and leaders of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament and Members of Parliament promoting the drafting, laying and passage of the Bill into law.

It said, “The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) are members of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, one of the promoters of this Bill and we are in full support of the Bill recently presented to Parliament for passage into law.”

“We have participated and supported in the drafting of the current Bill and would continue to give our full support to the consultative processes leading to its fine-tuning and passage into law by Parliament,” the statement said.

According to the Council, its position on the Bill stems from its long-standing and consistent biblical position on the preservation of God’s original plan for marriage, procreation and the preservation of the Family value system.

“We have participated and supported the drafting of the current Bill and would continue to give full support to the consultative processes leading to its fine-tuning and passage into law by Parliament,” the statement said.

The Council admitted it is not oblivious to fact that the Bill still needs improvement and appealed to Ghanaians to contribute through intellectually stimulating debates devoid of insults and name-calling and without fear of threats and intimidation when debate on the Bill opens.

This,  the Council said, will ensure a better and well-drafted Bill and ultimately a law that meets collective socio-cultural, traditional and religious aspirations.

The Council pledged to continue to pray to the Lord Almighty for strength, wisdom, courage, boldness and a sense of conviction for all involved in the process to carry through this divine assignment for God, country and generations yet unborn.
