The Congress for Democratic Change says all is set for its primaries, which will prepare it for the pending senatorial and representative by-elections in Montserrado County.
According to the CDC, primaries is one of the major requirements for candidates wanting to contest an elected position in Liberia on the party’s ticket which must be practice during electoral periods.
As such, CDC has announced the publication of guidelines leading to its primaries scheduled for May 17, 2019, in the Borough of New Kru Town.
A communication from the CDC said the party has named a committee of 10 persons to conduct the Montserrado County by-elections primaries.
The communication adds that the primaries committee is chaired by CDC vice Chairman for Political Affairs Moses Acarous Gray while Ronald Kerkula Mends-Cole will also serve as Co-Chairman.
Gray has been authorized to chair the scheduled primaries through a democratic process that would enable CDC to rally around its candidates with a united front.
“Acarous M. Gray and others have been authorized to conduct the scheduled democratic primaries, which is expected to converge tens of thousands of partisans, including voting and non-voting delegates, party structures, auxiliaries, leaders, as well as officials,” the communication said.
Besides Gray and Mends-Cole, CDC has also named other members to the primaries committee to include, Emmanuel T.T. Swen, Secretary, Emmett Reeves, Fatu Swaray, Hassan Newland, Alfred Gibson, James Crayton, Myres Beteah and Augustus Richards, all Members.
Following their appointments, the committee members have admonished interested applicants to be conscious of schedule and accompanied requirements surrounding the primaries.
According to the CDC Primaries guidelines, applicants must be a partisan of the party and in good standing, while at the same time, must meet all requirements set for the forth by the National Election Commission of Liberia for qualification to participate in the race.
Furthermore, the applicants must be duly registered and accredited by the organizing committee, willing to participate in the primaries and in compliance with the code of conduct governing appointed public officials in Liberia.
At the same time, the requirement is mandating those opting to participate in the primaries to sign a notarized commitment form, ensuring an acceptance of the primaries outcome.
“Applicants MUST sign a notarized commitment form, ensuring he or she accepts the primaries’ outcome, and that he or she will not be eligible to participate as an independent candidate, or otherwise,” the communique added.
“This does not preclude the applicant’s right to seek redress through the party’s internal grievance process in the event of a probable cause.”
At the same time, the party is encouraging individuals who may feel aggrieved to channel their grievances through written communication within 12 hours following the conduct of the primaries.
In the same way, the committee has warned participating individuals that it will have no alternative but to disqualify supporters or those who will act outside the law governing the primaries.
Meanwhile, CDC is requesting a non-refundable fee of US$500.00 (Representative candidates) and US$1,000.00 (Senatorial candidates). as registration for the primary.
