The MP for Bolgatanga Central has apologized to Manchester United’s Harry Maguire for mistakenly comparing him to Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Isaac Adongo acknowledged that since making the comparison, Maguire has become an integral part of the United defence and is even scoring goals for the team.
However, he lamented that Dr. Bawumia, whom he referred to as Ghana’s “Economic Maguire,” has been unable to stabilize the Ghanaian economy and has had to seek a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
During a parliamentary session on November 21, 2023, Adongo noted that last year he had compared Dr. Bawumia and Maguire unfavourably, citing their poor performance in their respective roles.
He acknowledged that Maguire has since improved and is now a key player for Manchester United, while Dr. Bawumia is advocating for digitalization after failing to address Ghana’s economic problems.
He said, “Mr Speaker, you remember last year I was very quick to compare my big brother to Harry Maguire. Today Maguire has turned the corner and is a transformed footballer.”
“Harry Maguire is scoring goals and is now a key player for Manchester United.”
“As for our economic Maguire (Dr. Bawumia), he is now roaming at the IMF with a cup in hand and has been able to get pensioners to leave their homes and go and parade on the streets.”
