For her, “there are a lot of qualified women” who can equally execute such tasks so society must give women enough opportunities to serve the country.

She indicated that the Affirmative Action bill does not propose an equal ratio of men and women in positions of government even though females outnumber males in the country, adding that more needs to be done since women play vital roles in nation building.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings said the battle to curtail crimes against women will not succeed without a high number of women appointees in government, saying: “If we were to have a lot more women represented in the various arms of government as well as in the private sector and everywhere else, issues regarding domestic violence and sexual abuse and defilement of our young girls will not be as awful as they are right now.”

She believes “there will be a lot more women fighting for the rights” of females and children who are usually marginalised if the country gets more females occupying positions of authority.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings emphasised that “we need to just allow more women in” to have a balanced representation in society.

She charged women across the country to “enrich their knowledge and allow others to also improve themselves to get to such heights”.

These remarks were contained in a video post on Facebook wall an event organised by Charterhouse.
