Philanthropist, Elvis Asiedu Antwi, has bowed out of the Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro race for the governing NPP’s parliamentary slot.
Popularly known as General, Mr Asiedu Antwi said he arrived at that painful decision in the spirit of party unity.
“Many were those who yearned for a change in the way and manner things were being done in this constituency, but for the sake of party unity and cohesion, I, will want to shelve my parliamentary ambitions for now. Even though I would have won this seat hands down, based on the resounding cheers my team and I had wherever we went, wise counsel has prevailed on us, so we sacrifice our personal interests for the good of the party come December, 2020” the statement signed by him read.
The decision which has broken the hearts of his teeming supporters who accepted and bought into his “hope message,” was as a result of several weeks of negotiations, by some of the aspirants in the race who were bent on neutralising his effect on the rank and file of constituents.
“Even though I would have won this seat hands down, based on the resounding cheers my team and I had wherever we went, wise counsel has prevailed on us, so we sacrifice our personal interests for the good of the party come December, 2020.”
In the emotional message to the hundreds of delegates who accepted him during the electioneering campaign, Elvis Asiedu Antwi assured them of his continuous support in or out of Parliament.
“To you my supporters and constituents, I know you’ll be disappointed but don’t despair, for I haven’t left you alone in the struggle for a better future for Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfrom. Always remember that, my doors are always open to you. I thank you for allowing me into your homes, shops, offices and wherever I encountered you.”
In 2019, the philanthropist cum politician in a gesture running into thousands of Ghana cedis donated toiletries, detergents and cement for blocks to help the smooth discharge of medical care to residents in and around the Kokrobite community in the Ga South municipality.
The astute businessman, who threw his weight behind the candidature of Engineer Fred Abban, said he opted for the Engineer because of his zeal and willingness to help the ordinary people in the constituency.
“For now, I urge the hundreds of delegates and polling station executives who bought into the “hope campaign” to throw their maximum support behind the parliamentary ambition of Engineer Fred Abban.”
Taking on the political authority in the constituency whose lack of vision has deprived Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro of the needed direction to steer the affairs of the constituency to political development, Elvis was optimistic that Engineer Abban held the keys to salvaging the constituency from the ruins it is already in.
“I believe with Engineer Abban as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the 2020 polls, our chances of retaining the seat will be greater rather than slimmer as it now looks. Engineer Abban’s message of hope for a better life will be the sure way of turning round the fortunes of the constituency and constituents by and large.”
The April 25th parliamentary primaries appears to be tilting in the favour of the young Engineer whose support base, keeps growing by the day.
