The National Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has accused the Ghana Police Service of blaming demonstrators for a sin they didn’t commit.

In a post-demonstration press conference addressed by the leadership of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi accused the police of being the ones who pelted the stones at their fellow police officers but turned around to blame the demonstrators for same.

“We must also let Ghanaians know that Police officers in mufti were those who were pelting the stones at their fellow police officers. They were not in police uniforms and so one may mistakenly assume that they’re part of the protesters” Sammy Gyamfi said.

The NDC-dominated Arise Ghana demonstration held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, was a monumental flop as protesters violently attacked the police officers who were available to protect them as well as by-standers.

Video footages have, however, revealed that, contrary to the directives of the High Court, the demonstrators wanted to use an unapproved route which the security personnel were preventing them from using.

Demonstrators began pelting stones at the police who had done very little to provoke the protesters, leading to the use of minimum force to disperse the irate protesters.

The police reportedly threw tear-gas and rubber bullets at the protesters when all attempts to get them to stop rioting proved futile. Close to 15 police officers sustained injuries from the stones pelted at them.

In a related development, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, has revealed that there is an obvious attempt to cause instability in the country, but the state’s security apparatus will do all it can to stem these insurgent activities by some nation wreckers.
