Parliament has expressed disappointment with the response from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Works and Housing, and the Lands Commission regarding the alleged sale of the Speaker’s official residence.

The legislature believes that the institutions’ responses did not directly address the sale and raised concerns about transparency in the matter.

However, it welcomed the decision by the Lands Ministry to investigate the attempted sale and is hopeful that the inquiry will reveal those involved in the alleged sale.

David Sebastian Damoah, Director of the Media Relations Department, released a statement expressing Parliament’s readiness to cooperate with the investigation.

The statement emphasized the importance of transparency in the matter, stating that it is crucial for public confidence in state institutions.

It was reported that the Speaker’s official residence was almost sold, but the potential buyer discovered the unresolved status of the property during due diligence at the Lands Commission.

Damoah clarified that the Speaker did not confirm the sale but revealed that the property was almost sold.

He also drew attention to the precarious situation surrounding the Speaker’s residence, indicating that almost all the surrounding buildings and accompanying parcels of land have been sold out to private developers, posing a threat to the safety and security of the Rt. Hon. Speaker.

The statement also referenced a similar incident in 2019 when the official accommodation of a sitting Clerk to Parliament was sold to a private developer in Cantonments.
