Since it was first founded by Mrs. Wrigley and established by Mrs. Waldron in 1836, Wey Gey Hey, as we affectionately call it, has become the standard of excellence that all educational institutions in this country aspire to achieve.

This standard of excellence is exhibited in its academic achievement but especially through the values on which the school has developed generations of women leaders in this country.

LIVE PURE, SPEAK TRUE, RIGHT WRONG and FOLLOW THE KING.

With this motto as its guide, the school has produced many women who have and continue to serve our nation well. To name a few:
– The late Dr. Mrs Mary Grant, First Female Medical Doctor in Ghana
– Prof. Florence Dolphyne, First Female Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana
– Dr. Mrs Slyvia Boye, First female Registrar WAEC
– SQ Ldr Melody Danquah, First Female Pilot of the Airforce
– Dr Mrs Rosina Aboagyewaa Acheampong, First Ghanaian Headmistress of the school and First Deputy Director General of Ghana Education Service

Mr Speaker, the celebration of Wey Gey Hey is also a celebration of the future that Ghana can be – by producing citizens who can compete with the best in the world in all fields. This will require schools to be held to the same standard as Wesley Girls’ High School.

We are all glad to know that the new Patriotic Party administration has committed itself to building an effective partnership with religious bodies, civic organizations and society at large in areas of management and supervision of schools as well as the training of teachers in order to enhance the quality of education.

Once again, congratulations to Wesley Girls’ High School on its 180th anniversary.

Thank you Mr. Speaker for this opportunity.
