The Member of Parliament for Tano South, Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere, has expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Techimantia for the construction of their road.

Speaking on the floor of the House, the Deputy Ahafo Regional Minister recounted his ordeals in relation to the poor nature of the Bechem-Techimantia-Akumadan road.

He mentioned an encounter with one church pastor who said until he sees actual construction and asphalting of the road, he would never believe that the road would be constructed as that has always been the refrain since 1962.

“The people of Techimantia are almost all the time crying over this road. Last time I went to a particular church (Truth Faith Church) and I met a man who is a pastor at that church. He told me, in 1962, when he came from school his father told him that Techimantia-Akumadan road had been awarded to contract and it was in papers” the MP said.

The Deputy Regional Minister also had this to say about the several attempts he has made to assure the people of the realization of their long cherished dream of seeing the road constructed.

“From that time up to this time, I was trying to tell them that this road will be constructed and he told me until he sees asphalt on the road, he will never believe it”

Hon. Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere also used the occasion to dispel the negative impression people have about Techimantia being a village.

“If you happen to find yourself in that place and you are going to Techimantia, you would presume that the place is a village but it’s a very big town because of the road that you pass and the nature of the road, you will never anticipate until you get to Techimantia town of which the people are very very interested when they heard the news that the President has given accent to this road and for that matter Parliament is also going to debate on it and accept it”

He also praised the former Member of Parliament for the pivotal role he played in ensuring that this feat is achieved.

“My former MP Hon. Andrews Agyei Yeboah almost all the time would call me to find out where we’ve reached and I’ve been going to the leadership almost all the time and I am very grateful for this opportunity and I know Techimantia people will also be grateful for the Government for the year of road”

He thanked the Speaker of Parliament and the leadership for assisting him in his efforts to secure the contract for the construction of the road.
