Minister-designate for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Awal Mohammed, has stated that a well-structured and attractive tourism sector can earn Ghana an average of US5$ billion in the next two years.
According to him, a target of US5$ billion revenue from the sector is not too ambitious considering the tourist sites that Ghana has to offer.
He argued that if Ghana could $3 billion in just a year during the 2019 Year of Return programme, it could earn more in two years if the proper strategies are put in place for the sector.
He said, “This was just one year and so if we embark on an international tourism drive and bringing on board the arts and culture festival we should be able to gross $6 billion by 2024.”
“This is not impossible Mr. Chairman, and with the support of all stakeholders we will be able to do it.”

The Minister-designate disclosed this when he took his turn to vetted by the Appointments of Committee of Parliament on Thursday, 25th February, 2021.
Ghana, he said, does not need to reinvent the wheels of tourism strategies being pursued by in other African countries to bring tourists but to grow her own strategies.
According to him, the country only needs to improve on her arts and culture and make good drumming and dancing an integral part of tourism displays.
He disclosed that given the opportunity he will introduce a new tourism potential by constructing an international first-class film and music studio.
This, he said, will form part of the drive to bring in more tourists to Ghana because a film and music studio is one element that could increase the tourism potential of the country.
He stated that such a facility will help the film and music production industry and make Ghana the hub of films produced in the West African sub-region.
