The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has warned consumers in the Greater Accra Region, particularly those in the eastern parts, to brace up for an interruption in water supply as it replaces a transmission pipeline in Tema.
In a press release on Monday, April 19, GWCL explained that for the period its engineers will be replacing the 200-metre 42-inch transmission pipeline from Kpong to Tema, around the Gbetsele Junction, water supply will be interrupted.
The situation, according to GWCL, is causing it to lose several volumes of water daily and consequently having serious impact on the volumes of water available for consumption.
The work starts on Thursday, April 22 and ends on Monday, April 26.

“Management is, as a result, entreating consumers in Accra, especially consumers in the eastern part of the metropolis to store enough water for consumption during the period of the shut-down.”
But the company has assured that measures have been put in place to ensure that the impact will not be adverse.
It says the free Covid-19 reservoirs provided by the government will still be filled with water to enable consumers to fetch for free while hospitals and schools will also be served.
It said the necessary equipment and logistics, as well as personnel required to execute the project, have been secured and so it will be completed as scheduled, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

The areas to be hard hit include Afienya, Apollonia, Gbetsele, Ashaiman, Katamanso, Kakasunanka, Adjei Kojo, East Legon Trasaco, all communities in Tema (Community 1 to 25), Free Zones enclave, Tema Industrial Area, Dawhenya, Prampram, Spintex Road, Batsonaa, Coca Cola, Kasapreko, Manet, Lashibi, Klagon, Sakumono, and surrounding communities.
