You are ‘corrupt’ and don’t deserve another term – Residents fight Tano South MCE

Some residents in the Tano South Municipality in the Ahafo Region are up in arms with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Offinam Takyi for tagging the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Benjamin Assabil Essando as ‘corrupt’.

The residents said the person who could be tagged with corruption in the Municipality is Mr. Offinam Takyi who has grabbed all the juicy contracts and other goodies for his family, and could best be described as the most corrupt MCE.

Mr. Offinam Takyi in an interview with GNA on an audit report from the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) on the Tano South office described the NPP Constituency Chairman as ‘corrupt’, and that he would not shield him, and asked the authorities to take appropriate action against him or act accordingly.

In a sharp rebuttal, residents from the entire political divide called on Mr. Offinam Takyi to withdraw the tag he attempted to foist on Mr. Assabil Essando and stop calling him ‘corrupt’ if he does not understand the issues.

According to some residents frontpageghana.com spoke to, the incumbent MCE is doing all he could for the President to retain him as the MCE, but his biggest competitor is the Constituency Chairman who has support from all for his hardwork and humility.

Narrating some ‘dubious’ activities of Mr. Offinam the MCE, the residents said he awarded himself and family scholarships, which should have been given to the citizens and left the very poor people who needed it most.

The residents disclosed that the MCE, though a member of the panel who vetted the beneficiaries awarded himself a scholarship, his wife, and two kids and rendered the poor but brilliant students stranded.

“Our MCE, Hon. Offinam Takyi is corrupt and has no respect for the people of the Municipality that he wants to lead for another four years. He is a greedy person, if not how could he award himself and all members of the family scholarships, and turn round to call someone ‘corrupt’, when he himself is corrupt.”

“This is a clear example of the black pot calling the sauce pan black,” they added.

“If not corruption, why would an MCE who was appointed by President Akufo-Addo to oversee the Municipality and the residents’ welfare award him scholarship worth GH¢25,735.00 meant for the same people he was to care for, ” they asked?

Mr. Collins Offinam Takyi, this portal learnt gave himself GH¢9,000, his wife, Joyce Offinam Takyi, GH¢6,000, his elder daughter, Emmanuela Akyaa Takyi, GH¢5,936 and his younger kid, Maame Yaa Baffour Takyi GH¢1,799 worth of scholarships for their respective courses of study.

“He also has no respect for our Traditional rulers, and on one occasion insulted the Queen Mother of the Bechem Traditional Area, Nana Adwoa Poh Dwamena II that is why all the Nananom are against his re-appointment.”

Based on that, the Queen Mother has petitioned the President, H.E. Akufo-Addo not to retain him for a second time as the MCE.

Readers would recall the GNA published a story about the Constituency Chairman who was asked to refund salary from YEA that he did not deserve.

Mr. Benjamin Assabil Essando was contracted by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) as Project Assistant from September 1 2017 while he was also employed by the Ghana Education Service.

He was later asked to resign from that job or as employee of the Ghana Education Service as Training Officer.

He chose to resign from the YEA and refunded all the salaries that were paid to him for the period back into Government’s chest.

This, according to the residents and party supporters, Mr. Offinam-Takyi is using to tarnish the image of the NPP Constituency Chairman who he sees as his biggest threat in the race.
