The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR) has introduced the Micro Data Dissemination Policy (MDDP), outlining the procedures for publishing and accessing data related to labour issues while prioritizing confidentiality protection for data contributors.

The policy aims to formalize data sharing practices and availability.

Mr. Kizito Ballans, Chief Director of MELR, emphasized the significance of the MDDP in facilitating the collection, analysis, sharing, and reporting of employment and labour-related data.

The data collected will serve various stakeholders, including the government, other ministries, academic institutions, international partners, employers, and job seekers.

Mrs. Rhonda Gavor, Director of Human Resources at the Ministry, delivered the Chief Director’s address during the launch, highlighting the policy’s role in strengthening collaboration between the Ministry, its departments, agencies, and the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

The MDDP is a result of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry and the GSS, focusing on producing and utilizing employment and labour statistics for informed policy implementation and decision-making.

Mr. Ballans emphasized that the policy encompasses both administrative data and surveys, offering a comprehensive framework for effective data management.

He expressed confidence that the MDDP would fortify the existing collaboration between the Ministry and the GSS, fostering seamless sharing of data, knowledge, and experiences.

The policy not only aims to establish a single source of verification for internal data but also intends to encourage increased data usage across all sectors. It emphasizes the importance of feedback from internal and external stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement.

Commending the effective collaboration with the Ghana Statistical Service, Mr. Ballans expressed gratitude for their joint efforts in compiling and organizing the data, emphasizing the role of statistics in policy observation and decision-making related to labour market outcomes.
