The recent Akosombo Dam spillage caused floods that affected several communities in the Oti, Savannah, and Bono-East Regions.

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, announced on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, that the government has earmarked GH¢220 million in the 2024 budget to support the relief phase for the affected communities.

He also expressed sympathy for the families and individuals who lost their homes and livelihoods due to the disaster.

The government has also sought funding from the World Bank under the IDA Crisis Response Window (CRW) to help with the resettlement of the victims, compensation, and infrastructure reconstruction in the affected areas.

Mr. Ofori-Atta indicated that the Ministry of Finance responded quickly after visiting the affected communities and requested financial assistance from the Bank.

The government hopes the allocation and collaboration will help to address the challenges faced by those impacted by the Akosombo Dam spillage and facilitate the recovery and rebuilding efforts in the regions.
