President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia together with the First and Second ladies will, today Monday 1st March 2021, be vaccinated publicly against Covid-19.

The public inoculation of the President and his Vice along with their wives is to remove general fear about the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Since Ghana received the vaccine from the COVAX Facility last Wednesday, many have expressed doubts and reservations about its efficacy while some have taken sides with conspiracy theorists who believe the vaccine has been created to wipe out the African race.

Addressing the nation Sunday evening on his 24th update on Ghana’s enhanced response to the coronavirus pandemic, the President assured the Ghanaian public that the conspiracies are far from the truth.

According to him, the country’s regulatory agency and one of the most reputable in Africa and in the world, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), has certified the safe use of the vaccine.

He assured that the AstraZeneca vaccine is one of two vaccines that have been approved and declared as safe-for-use by the FDA.

The process of certification, he said, is currently ongoing for the other vaccines, which will soon increase the range of vaccines available to Ghanaians and facilitate the ability to reach the target of vaccinating 20 million Ghanaians by the end of the year.

He stated, “It will not do so if it had any reservations about the safety of the vaccine, and I have gone on record as saying that no vaccine will be deployed in the country for use without the express certification of the FDA.”

“Taking the vaccine will not alter your DNA, it will not embed a tracking device in your body and neither will it cause infertility in women or in men.”

The President indicated that to assure the public that the vaccine is safe he and the First Lady, the Vice President the Second Lady will take the vaccine publicly at two health facilities in Accra today.

Prominent personalities, he said, like some Eminent Clergy, the National Chief Imam, the Asantehene, the Ga Mantse, and some media practitioners will also, on Tuesday, take the jab publicly.

“This is being done because the vaccine will help protect us against the impact of COVID-19 on our health.”

“It is also a major catalyst to restoring livelihoods and the national economy to the robust level it belongs,” he added.

President Akufo-Addo urged faith-based groups, civil society, media and all Ghanaians to support the public education campaign associated with the exercise.
