“We need a proper General Secretary who would bring the poor and the rich together and someone who can work with the young and the old, to cut down bickering, that person is our father Opare Ansah. Tell a friend to tell his or her boyfriend or girlfriend, I said you should vote for Opare Ansah when the time comes later in the year to elect a General Secretary for NPP”.
This was the voice of support by the former Member of Parliament for Akwatia in the Eastern region, Mercy Adu Gyamfi popularly called ‘Ama Say’ when she mounted the podium to declare her support for the Aspiring General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Fredrick Opare-Ansah in Takoradi over the weekend.
Friends of Opare-Ansah over the weekend organized a program in the capital of the Western region, Takoradi where the former Member of Parliament and of ECOWAS Parliament, Fredrick Opare-Ansah declared his intentions to contest for the General Secretary position when the time comes.
Speaking at the program which turned into rally with a large number of party activists, Madam Ama Say said the NPP family is a party with respect and appeals to a lot of people but the conduct of some current executives is making some party sympathizers to give up on the party.
While addressing the gathering, Ama Say pointed that if we are looking for one person who can bring the party members together in the wake of the retrogression being witnessed in the party, then it is Opare-Ansah, who according to her, is a team player with full of political experience.
Also citing herself, she recounted how some party executives humiliated her when she was an MP, “they said, they do not like Ama Sey because she cannot speak English, we do not like her. But I can bring people into the party fold. So if I stand to be elected, wouldn’t you vote for me? There were people who stood behind and said they don’t want Ama Sey, when I went to Parliament. But if people would like me it has to do with our father, Opare Ansah”.
She recounted the embarrassment she was taken through when she was in Parliament, and that kept her quiet and isolated. But it was experienced Frederick Opare-Ansah who took her to his office in Parliament, spoke and encouraged her to defy all odds and be at herself.
She narrated that everyday encouragement from ‘Father Opare Ansah, she was able to talk in Parliament, and this is someone the party needs, indicating that with Opare Ansah, no matter who you are if you are down he would lift you up again, his human relation is perfect and would ensure no one abuses or makes you uncomfortable.
“I hope you and I can push for him to become the General Secretary, and it would surprise us that he would place the party at a level that will be soo attractive to the extent that supporters and activists of the opposition would have confidence in NPP”, she added.
